We need Arabic speakers.

We are seeking volunteers for a potential assignment with a federal agency as an Arabic interpreter. This opportunity would require you to become a member of the National Language Service Corps. There is no membership fee to join the organization and all members of the NLSC are volunteers but are paid a stipend for any hours worked and reimbursed for travel expenses.

This is not a full-time position, but rather an assignment that requires individuals with the skill set below.

This potential assignment will require travel to Africa (the specific location is to be determined) beginning in January for a period of approximately 11 weeks to provide interpretation services, primarily in a training environment. There are several opportunities available, as there will be multiple sessions occurring.

NLSC Membership requirements:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen
  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • If you are a male, you must have registered for Selective Service.

Assignment requirements:

  • Experience working with military and/or military operations (or familiarity with military terminology)
  • Extensive simultaneous or consecutive interpreting experience in classroom/seminar setting using any of the following languages:

  • -- Standard Arabic
    -- Libyan Spoken Arabic
    -- Algerian Saharan Spoken Arabic
    -- Chadian Spoken Arabic
    -- Hassaniya Arabic
     
  • You must be available to devote at least 3 weeks of full-time work
  • You must have a current passport with a minimum of six months remaining prior to expiration
  • You must be willing to travel to Africa (specific location to be determined)
  • You must be willing to take an Arabic test administered by the NLSC's Language Certification Team
  • You must be willing to become a temporary federal employee.
