The NLSC Presented at “Results 2012”

The National Language Service Corps (NLSC) attended The Language Flagship’s “Result 2012” meeting held on October 26, 2012 in New York City. The event commemorated the 10th anniversary of The Language Flagship program and was well-attended with participants from government agencies, universities, K-12 educational institutions, and private sector companies from across the United States.

The participants reported on the results of the first decade of the Language Flagship program and discussed the future of language teaching and learning. Among presenters were Dr. Charles Stansfield and Dr. Joyce M. Baker who represented the NLSC with two presentations.  Dr. Stansfield spoke on “Proficiency Certification and the National Language Service Corps” while Dr. Baker discussed “The Role of Culture in National Language Service Corps: Language Sustainment and Enhancement Training”. These presentations were well-received and stimulated lively discussions in each of the breakout sessions.

The Language Flagship is also a sister program to the NLSC and both programs are initiatives within the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO). Many NLSC Members are graduates of various Flagship programs throughout the country.
