NLSC Members Complete Fiscal Year with FAOWeb assignment

The National Language Service Corps (NLSC)
Members completed several assignments during Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) including the development of several language learning and sustainment modules for the Foreign Area Officers (FAOs). FAO’s cultural and linguistic expertise is a known strength within all branches of the military; and the involvement of NLSC Members is expected to enhance the learning experience on a virtual platform known as FAOWeb.
The assigned NLSC Members represented four languages: Hausa, Ukrainian, Portuguese, and Vietnamese. These languages are a very small fraction of the 293 languages available within the NLSC membership. For a complete list of NLSC’s language capabilities, click here.

The broad array of language capabilities residing in the NLSC’s membership contributed to the program’s successes in providing foreign language support to federal agencies throughout FY13. Since the FAO assignment was completed by Members who had previous federal service, this enabled the federal government to reuse its investment in personnel with regional expertise and language skills.
