NLSC Washington D.C. Regional Chapter Learns about The Language Flagship

On Saturday, March 5, 2016, the National Language Service Corps (NLSC) Washington D.C. Regional Chapter met for its first event of 2016: a keynote luncheon highlighting the Arabic Flagship Program of the University of Maryland College Park (UMD).

Hawai’i represents one of the most beautiful places in the world serving as a popular tourist spot, with beautiful pineapple groves, and an abundance of beaches. Hawai’i is home to many federal government agencies and one of three National Language Service Corps (NLSC) Regional Chapters.

NLSC recruits at 1st Language Flagship National Student Meeting

The NLSC was invited to attend the National Student Flagship Meeting on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the University of Maryland.  During this event, the NLSC met with undergraduate students from various language flagship programs across the country.  The student attendees were juniors and seniors who possess foreign language skills, were recognized by their programs as outstanding scholars and have an interest in government service, Approximately 50 students attended this event. Some languages represented were Chinese-Mandarin, Spanish, Swahili, French and Russian.

The students were very interested in the mission and expressed interest in joining the NLSC.  .

NLSC will participate in 1st Language Flagship National Student Meeting

The National Language Service Corps will participate in the first ever Language Flagship National Student Meeting on March 6-7 at the University of Maryland. The event will bring together 50+ outstanding U.S. undergraduate students who possess foreign language skills and cultural expertise in countries of critical interest to the US national security community. Most of these students are juniors and seniors who are interested in government service. The event is an opportunity for us to meet a group of very talented young people, educate them about our mission and the opportunity to become a volunteer and serve our country, and make connections with individuals who may be a good fit as members of NLSC in the future.
