The National Language
Service Corps (NLSC) is an organization where U.S. citizens can volunteer their
language skills. Designed to augment Federal agency’s short term language
requirements, the NLSC assists in times of national need --whether international or domestic-- when language and cultural
expertise truly make a difference. As an on-call volunteer, not all of
our Members are selected to work on an assignment, but their willingness to
join an organization that is a language and cultural resource for the
government is invaluable.
As with any organization,
it is the Members who have the talent, and the NLSC welcomes individuals who
want to use their bilingual and multilingual skills. If you are considering
joining the NLSC, the application process is simple. To get started, click here to begin an online application or contact an NLSC Recruiter at recruiting@nlscorps.org. Once
you began the application, it will take approximately 40 minutes to complete.
Next you will be contacted
by a Recruiter to review your application and tell you more about the NLSC. If
selected to move forward in the process, you will be invited to complete a
detailed language assessment form which will be reviewed by our Language
Assessment team. This review constitutes the final application evaluation and
will determine whether your status changes from being an applicant to a candidate
for membership in the NLSC. Finally, you will be contacted again by a Recruiter
to complete the paperwork for membership.
Remember, you must be 18
years of age, a United States citizen, highly skilled in English and
language(s) other than English, and have a desire to use that language in the
service of others.
